Apolo Ohno – Five Time Olympic medals

From stumbles to victory, Apolo Ohno emerged as one of America's first and greatest Olympic speed skater.

Apolo Anton Ohno was May 22, 1982 in Seattle, Washington was born. His father, Yuki Ohno, who was a Japanese-American and her mother, Jerrie Lee, was a white American. They were divorced when Ohno was still a child, and he was raised by his father.

Ohno's father was concerned with the time without the supervision of his son and had him involved in competitive swimming and inline skating, two of whichwho excelled. Ohno became interested in short track skating, after sport on television. When she was 14 years old, his father sent him to Lake Placid Olympic Training Center to train full time. After training for only six months, claimed his first win overall titles for the U.S. championships.

In 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Ohno finished last in his studies, but went to the Americans before, the whole world champion of football during the 2000-01Season. Four years later, he qualified for the team of the United States in 2002 in Salt Lake City. Ohno quickly as an athlete, popular among fans of the United States for his friendly attitude and casual style. It was the face of short track in the United States, which was a relatively new sport at this time. Ohno won two medals at the Summer of 2002, a gold and silver. The gold medal was won by the political leader, Kim Dong-Sung of South Korea, disqualified for blocking Ohno. This decisionled to a barrage of negative statements, and even death threats from the South Korean fans.

Ohno decided not to the 2003 World Cup short track event in Korea for security reasons, the participation of the Winter Olympics 2002. He, however, go to South Korea for the World Cup 2005 to meet, where he won two gold medals and the final victory.

Ohno has had an erratic start to the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, stumbled into a semi-final heat. He finished last into win the 1,500 meters, but went to the bronze medal in the 1000 meters, gold in the 500 meters, and another bronze medal in the 5000-meter relay for men.

So far in 2007, Ohno won his 8th U.S. national title in February, the first in any case. During the World Cup in March, won a gold and two bronze medals. On 23 April, has announced that will compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia.

On a personal level, Ohno was takenin Asian-American Hall of Fame April 26, 2007. This honor is given to Asian-Americans who have contributed to their heritage through new ways, or in achieving excellence in their field, both nationally and internationally.

Ohno also saw 2007 as a contestant on ABC's popular Dancing with the Stars. He and his partner, Julianne Hough, was the first perfect score of 30 for their samba April 16 show. Ohno and his partner, and finally reached the final showround, alongside Laila Ali and Joey Fatone. Ohno and Julianne 4 were nominated the winners of the season on 22 May 25 Ohno Birthday.
